Please Help!! Chick Not Well 😞 - Page 2

Mareks hardly ever strikes a chick less than 3 weeks old, and it is usually older when it occurs. I would suspect dehydration or a vitamin deficiency, but Avian Encephalomyelitis (AE) is one thing to rule out. Take this chick, and keep it warm and dip it's beak into water with electrolytes and vitamins several times every hour today to get it re-hydrated. Where did you get the chicks? I hope it starts to improve with fluids. Β Here is some info on AE:

Thank you for your help!! I will get in contact with her ASAP just to make sure I am doing it correctly. It has been a while! I really hope you're right and it's not mareks!

Thanks again! I will definitely be keeping you all posted. Fingers crossed she makes it. I will feel so bad if she doesn't make it!

Well I am sorry to say that the chick just passed away :( I could not save her fast enough and I feel absolutely terrible. I am going to have my husband buy some of the vitamin stuff on his way home to at least make sure the other chicks are getting what they need. I bought the chicks from a feed store. I am really hoping it's not a contagious disease! Thank you everyone for the help.Β

So sorry for your loss. Necropsies by the state vet or vet labs can sometimes diagnose an illness. Here are a couple of links that help with that:Β
