not sure about this

Hi there,

My boyfriend and I are relatively new to the chicken world.  We've  had a mixed flock of 6 chickens and a rooster since August 2015.  Neither of us has ever seen the following pictures before.  I just wanted some clarification on what is going on and if there's anything that can be done to prevent it or if they are just things that occur naturally from time to time. The first picture looks like a huge calcium growth on the side of the egg.  I've seen small spots before but never a spot that took up one whole side of the egg.  The second picture looks like maybe the egg just didn't for around the placenta and the yolk?  But again, I just need a little clarification.  Thanks in advance for your help.

The 1st pic is from calcium deposits, and the second one is a shell-less egg membrane that has broken or didn't contain an egg. If you go to the search box at the top of this page or Google "common egg quality problems," there is a good article by Sumi.
