Hi there! I currently have 2 new members of my flock. I've only had 1 Rhode island red before, and she's going to be 7 this year and is by far the best chicken I have ever had (and she was actually my first chicken!) So in December I got 2 more when I went to the feed store for feed and saw they had some. And I've been loving them ever since!

Except for one thing, They were guaranteed pullets, but one of them looks disturbingly like a male...

He's about 4 months old (got him Dec 17th and he was already a few weeks old) and he/she has no spur whatsoever and hasn't even tried to crow. But he/she has a drooping tail of beautiful teal feathers, and the ones on his back are very greasy/shiny looking, his comb & wattles are much larger then the other birds and are a much deeper red color. and for a while he used to chase around the other chick but he no longer does that and hasn't for about a month. But he just looks so rooster-ish. As explained by the photos I just took a few minutes ago.

All in all, he or she is beautiful & so, so sweet, not mean or aggressive at all And I would LOVE a rooster, But if he is then I cannot keep him due to roosters not being allowed, So i'm praying for a female that just looks like a male, since my 7 year old RIR is huge, and has the biggest combs and wattles (except no shiny or teal feathers) and people always tell me I have a male with her even though she lays eggs (although not anymore though) and never has she crowed. So i'm hoping this is the case with Jolene, who I may have to switch to Joel.

I posted pictures of them up top. The one i'm sure is female is the one with very small pink comb and wattles and the male is the one that has a big comb and wattles and they're much more red. I uploaded them in order of female, then male, then them both together. And I tried to take the best pictures of them but chickens move a lot. :D

Hope I can get some advice on him! I've had a male Americana before but he had a big spur and crowed like crazy when he was really young, And this one hasn't at all or no spur.

Dang, I was pretty sure of it myself. But I wanted to see what other people thought. :hitMaybe i'll get lucky & he won't crow a bunch, But i'm doubting that too. Thanks for your input! :)

Have you considered making or buying a No Crow Collar for him? I've seen many people use them, with varying levels of success.
