The coop is done....now time to work on the RUN.

Have you decided whether to roof the run near the pop door?

...or you could add a foyer......lol!
I did this because pop door faces prevailing winds...oh, and wicked winters.
Just happened to have those windows around...so viola!

I think i am going to wait and see how the chickens deal with the rain. Like others have said on here, i checked with my friends with chickens and they said theirs hardly even notice it. They just run around in the rain collecting easy to get worms, etc...

I like the foyer idea. That's great.

No wind issues where my coop is located for the most part though.

I put up the awning to protect the pop door from rain/snow that might either warp the door(or ice it shut) or wet getting into coop.

I might do something like that to cover the "porch" part of the ramp. That could give them a chance to stand on the porch and decide weather to go out or not.

The eaves of the coop overlap the porch now, but it's about a 6 foot drop, so unless rain is coming straight down or from the other side of the coop, it likely wont help much on it's own.

I've done this both ways. Uncovered run and now I just built a new run that's covered. I find its best to at least cover a portion of the run closest to the coop entrance. A lot of this will depend on your ground and way of land around your coop but my last two coops, the ground held a lot of moisture so when it rained, there would be quite a muddy mess going on. So that's led me to start covering any new runs I build to avoid excess mud and muck. If I had a very large run I would just be covering a portion of it though to save on materials.

I added the Chicken Fountain today and tested it out. Works great.

I also put a bunch of stumps, sticks and branches in the run. They like that kind of thing, right?

I also filled an old tire with sand, but i didn't get a picture of it.
