So at almost 4 weeks old all of my chickens can fly. Every morning when I go to give them fresh food and water they like to climb up my arms, get onto my shoulders, and fly to the top of the cage. After they they go right underneath the heatlamp and almost...melt? They just slowly lay down, wings held out or up and just lay under the heat lamp like so:
400

They seem to love it, they've done this every morning for almost a week. They stay up there a bit and work on their feathers and then they start peeping when they want back in the cage.

But I just want to be sure that 1) It's not hurting them. 2) I'm worried they're doing this because they're too cold in the cage.

They don't act cold but I could be completely wrong. What do you think? Do your chickens do this too?

Hi if your chicks are panting or spread out near the edges they are to warm. id check the temp in the cage and make sure one end is cooler incase under the lamp gets to warm.at 4 weeks old temp should be about 80 degrees.

In the picture shown they're about 6 inches away from the lamp, they go to the top of the cage and lay right underneath it. But they don't show any signs of being cold when they're in the bottom part of the cage. It's very odd.

If the chicks huddle is called piling means they are to cold and if they spread out means they are warm. as long as they have a warm spot and a cooler spot.
