It's been over 48hrs since hatching and my little man still hasn't pooped and i'm gettiing seriously worried. He is also a lot quieter and I can hear gurgles from his stomach. His vent is constantly pulsating and feels firm. He also goes crazy when I've touch it. All i've done so far is put a bit of olive oil on it but no luck. Here is a pic. Does it look normal?

He's on medicated chick crumbs and he is on his own as the others didn't hatch. Please help!

Make sure the bum is completely clean. Clean it up with warm water to ensure nothing is obstructing. You can rub mineral or olive oil on it too as a lube.

If you use vinegar it is the raw kind "contains mother". Doesn't have to be organic. Hienz and Bragg's both have raw apple cider vinegar available at your local super market. You may already have chick vitamin and electrolyte powder mix. I'd just use that. If the bum is clear and lubed it should work fine. Is the bird eating? What goes in comes out. I like the vitamin and electrolyte mix as it perks birds up. That little energy boost so they will eat. The feed and water is the most important thing for them right now. If not eating then an energy boost in water so they will is what's needed.

My poor little man still hasn't pooped i'm getting so worried. Just gave him some apple cider vinegar in his water and encouraged him to eat and drink. He is stumbling a lot and is very tired and seems to be coughing. He is sleeping under his heating plate right now. What shall I do if he still hasn't pooped by tonight?

I know this post was a few weeks ago, but I am having the same problem with my 2 day old, only I can clearly see the darkish obstruction that isn't making it out. There is nothing sticking on the outside of the bum. I tried to use some water to soften it, to no avail. I just read your post and will try the olive oil forthwith. It is barely eating and drinking, but seemed more perky today. Is this something a vet should look at?

Hi there. I would suggest going to the vet for this - my vet put a needle up my little ones vent and squirted water up there which cleared the blockage. Before going to the vet
you could also try very gently squeezing the area. I was also advised to give him sugar water or apple cider vinegar. Good luck I hope everything works out!
