Just out of curiosity, I cleaned out my computer with full scans of MalwareBytes, Super Antispyware and CCleaner. Then I opened up Chrome and set it to download the BackyardChickens.com homepage and connected to the internet.

After the homepage had finished downloading I disconnected and closed down Chrome. That way the BYC homepage would be the one and only thing downloaded from the internet. I then ran SuperAntispyware again. Even though the only page the computer had seen was Backyard Chickens.com (I never even logged in!) that one program found 127 adware tracking cookies! 127! From one single page!

No wonder it takes up to 15 seconds for it to respond to anything I do or type.
 :caf :he :old

Other than that I have no complaints, it's a great place. :love

I have windows 8.1 and am on a 3 Mbps internet connection. I can't even use Chrome to come to this forum it freezes up on me and won't move after like 5 minutes

I have to use Internet Explorer to come here and even so eventually if I am here long enough IE will have an "error" and have to restart. I am on MANY internet forums + Facebook and this is one of the hardest pages for my computer to handle right up there with some of the sites with a bajillion ads to read the stories

We appreciate the feedback! We're always trying to find the proper balance between features (which slow things down), advertising (which keeps the site free) and speed / accessibility.

One important point: Cookies are NOT malware.

Again, we'll look into this and work at trying to make sure the balance of the above items is as optimal as possible for our users!

I know not all cookies are malware. however many are used to generate targeted spam lists :) some are uploaded and used by the forum simply to remember who I am. But 127? That just seems like a bit much for one page. Question: Do I need to have a certain number of posts before becoming a gold member?

Interesting, my ISP speed is the same as yours (Win-7), but I have to use Chrome because I.E.8 freezes on me when I try using it here. Weird, huh? :barnie

Not sure if this is the same thing but last week I tried coming on here and got a ton of pop ups all of a sudden!!! Luckily I think Chrome blocked most of them but the last one opened and I closed it quickly. This was on my phone too. I am paranoid about viruses so reset my phone and this time turned on Verizon Security, which is run by McAfee and has a pop up blocker/safe browsing thing. Went back on Backyard Chickens thinking resetting the phone would fix it and it did it again!!!! This time it told me it blocked 25 pop ups!!!! And took me back to a safe page them again when it tried again. I knew a lot had popped up before, it was like a quick flash of a bunch all at once, but had no idea just how many!! Was very weird. But thankfully I haven't had any issues since and had never had an issue before but I found it so weird and kinda scary!

Having the pop ups again. This time they opened. Just one but still sketchy and it said the site wantef something, like said your name. I closed it. And as I'm typing this McAfee blocked another. Not sure why it didn't work before. And in fact its not even pop ups, it takes me off your site and to there. I clear my history but maybe I need to clear something on the phone at this point too. But I know it's probably really expensive but can you guys please work on getting a secure site/Google certified OR at least work on updating the coding so it can't be hacked? I love the site and this has never been an issue in the 7 years I've been on the site until just very recently but I'm not sure I can risk something happening to my phone just to come on here.
