Silverudd's Blue

Pics
Oh, wow!! Love the colors, and I was wondering about the egg sizes people get. I have two blue sisters that look similar to yours. They are not laying yet. They will be 6 months old in a week! 😱
Also- your girls are so pretty, did you hatch them from your own flock or did you get eggs from another source?

I find it funny bc my blue hen is my smallest hen but her eggs are bigger then my big Bielefelder hens. I had a group of 4 month old pullets start laying and I was surprised that they started so young- but I had given a few to my sister and they weren’t laying. The only real difference being that I fed mine a flock raiser 20% feed and hers were getting 16% feed. As soon as she switched to a higher protein feed they all started laying. I also found that my group of olive egger pullets stopped laying when they were put with the layers on 16% feed- so we mixed in the flock raiser and they started laying again:idunnothey are all out to free range most days so I found it funny that the feed seemed to make such a difference.
I have been playing with ratios too and have found the same conclusion. For my next set of babies, I will use a higher protein feed too. My girls seem so small. I bought hatching eggs off of a breeder on the facebook group. I was fortunate to get 3 pullets from 6 hatching eggs. I bought a larger set of hatching eggs off of eBay and maybe a 1/3 hatched. The only Silverudd's Blue egg that was a pullet was from a tan egg (pictured above as Marceline). Knowing that she lays green, that means she is heterozygous for the blue gene trait and may have tan layers for offspring depending on the luck of the roo. She also had red leakage, which is a cull from the program. She's sweet and lays beautiful eggs, so she will enjoy a life in the layer pen! 🥰

Thanks for all the pictures!
These 2 chicks are from Windy Whiskers in Texas. They were beautiful eggs and packaged wonderfully but I had a horrible hatch with them.
I had 6 chicks hatch from eggs from Florida last November and I kept the trio of that blue rooster and a blue and splash hens. I’m just trying to get the first import look of really dark eyes, dark legs- I love how they look with those dark beady eyes lol
The big sweet eyes is what I love about my Jersey Giants. I like most every splash chicken I've ever seen, too.

I know not the greatest photos but I’ve had a couple people tell me that they could sex Silverudd’s Blue at 4 weeks....mine are 5 weeks old and I’m just not very confident on sexing them! One day I think I see maybe 2 of my 7 combs turning pink and larger than the others and then some days I look harder and longer and think crap maybe 5 of the 7 or maybe 0?! I put blue arrows on the 2 I’m somewhat suspecting....Thoughts?

I agree those look like little cockerels.

Hey! Just thought I’d see if anybody still follows this thread😁
I’ve finally gotten some more Silverudd eggs from 2 breeders and ended up with 10 from each set!:celebrate I’m super excited to be able to start again with this breed.
I’ll add a pic of each group- they hatched 3-6-24 and 3-12-24

I already have a couple favorites😉, and by about 10 days I could see a big difference in size of combs, so really interested to see if it holds up as the weeks go by!

Congrats on the babies. Great hatches. Enjoy them. They’re my favorite breed.
