Help! First time w/ baby chicks :)

Thread Starter
April 8th they come! I'm building & setting up my first ever Brooder for 12 chicks.
(6 Ameraucanas & 6 Black Australorps)

Located in BC, Canada

Can I use a 75w reptile red heat lamp (w/ a 250w brooder lamp clamp with reflector and guard) if the chicks will be in the house?
I hate the idea of a heat lamp BUT I wont be raising chicks again for a loooong time (If ever), so I don't want to invest in an expensive eco-glow brooder heater.

Any & ALL brooder tips & advise are greatly appreciated. What works, doesn't work, what I should keep on hand in case of emergencies, etc.
I'd also appreciate tips on the breeds I chose!

I'd love to hear your first experiences!

Thank you SO much!

Check out this thread for how to do it using a cave made from a heating pad. The thread is long, but all the essential information is contained in the first couple of pages.
