Could these chicks have litter box trained themselves?

I put a 10 box nesting area up about a week ago in a new coop for my 40 chicks. We hadn't hung it up yet as we still need to cut some windows out....and today I noticed in 2 boxes there was poop..and a "hoard" or stash of worms. I sit in the coop for about an hour a day watching and observing behaviors of all my new breeds (Americaunas ,cookoo Marans, silver and golden wyndotte, RIR) and literally saw a RIR and a silver laced wyndotte sit on the edge of bin, poop few seconds and hop off! Has anyone ever seen this?

Yep, I see this with every new batch of chicks I put in the coop. They're practicing roosting and perhaps getting themselves into the bad habit of pooping in your nest boxes. I image they'll have a grand time sleeping in them too.
I'd suggest getting those nests hung up and covering them until your girls are ready to use them properly. This is a hard habit to break once it gets established, best to nip it as soon as possible.

Good luck!
