Chick advice, please?

My husband and I have been raising chickens for about a year.  We recently purchased our 3rd batch of chicks from a local hatchery.  We hand picked all of our chicks, and ducklings.

There is a chick [buff orpington] that is much smaller than the others.  We think it is about a week younger.  It "cries" to be held.  Once it is picked up, it is perfectly content.  This chick also sleeps a lot.  More so than all of the other chicks.  Does this chick sleep more because it is younger, or could it possibly be sick?  We've never experienced a super, sleepy, chick before.  Can any of you guys tell me if this is normal?  We have observed the chicks and ducks, and it is not being picked on.  It is also eating and drinking just as much as the other chicks.

Thank you. :)

Some chicks are just "complainers". I do a lot of hatching, and theres always at least one loud mouth in every hatch that just will not put a lid on it smile.png

If she's eating, drinking and pooping normally, I wouldn't be too concerned. However, I would keep an eye on her, just in case. I'd guess her being sleepy is most likely normal, especially if you're comparing her to the older chicks. New chicks sleep a bunch.

Thank you!  That's what we thought, but we weren't sure.  We've never had such a young chicken before.  We've always started off between 1-2 weeks, we've never had a "newborn" chick before.  <3
