Red Sex Link with Swollen Area Under Eye

One of our one year old red sex-links has had swelling under her eye and now it is to the point when she cannot see out of one eye.

We have been fighting this issue since mid-winter and it improved somewhat with 7-10 days of a once a day dose of 1/2 ML of Tylan but it does not seem top be improving.  She is eating fine, active, and is producing eggs and there is no fluid leaking from her eyes.  I have searched the internet to no avail.  Can anyone provide any further recommendations to help us to heal her?

I have attached two photos so you can see the good eye versus the swollen eye.

Many thanks for your advice!  It's our first year with backyard hens so this is all new to us.

Did she ever have symptoms of a respiratory disease, such as cough, sneeze, runny nose, watery or foamy eye, gasping, or rattles when breathing? Have you ever seen a peck mark or a sting around the eye? MG and coryza are respiratory diseases that can cause eye and sinus swelling, but an abscess from a peck wound or injury could as well. A tumor would be the last suggestion, and these are common. If there was a respiratory sinus infection before, she could still have a pus pocket that needs to come out. Can you see any pus or gunk inside the eyelid?

She initially had white runny substance (white and kind of smelly) from her eye but we treated that with warm compresses daily and it cleared up after 2-3 weeks combined with the Tylan.  It then switched over to the opposite eye with no runny substance, mostly cleared up and then has switched back and come back in a big way.  We just want her well and happy.  Not sure if we should take her to an aviary vet or if there is an over the counter medicine or other treatment that could help her.  We thought sinus infection combined with the cold weather but now it's in the 50s and 60s in PA and she has a cozy warm coop for roosting at night.  It has not affected any other of our chickens and it's confined to her.

The bad odor, and switching from one eye to another could be coryza, but without a test it could be E.coli, MG, or something else. I would try to get a culture by a vet which will tell you what antibiotic is best. Sulfa drugs such as sulfadimethox or Sulmet can be used to treat coryza. Many of the diseases can make carriers of the flock, so knowing what is going on is important. The pus inside that eyelid really needs to be drained. Hopefully a vet can help.
