Hi guys I'm new to BYC and I'm looking to get some advice from all. I have recently hatched a female pilgrim gosling in my incubator (needed a little assistance and some of yolk sac hadn't quite been absorbed but not alot) she seemed to be doing great she was eating/drinking/pooping and walking about (tho we did have to strap her legs for afew days as we think she may have had straddle leg) but she seemed to be walking about perfectly and was taken out for cuddles for small periods of time. She showed no signs of being unwell in the morning when my partner checked on her so he went to town for a few hours, tho he did say she was chirping abit bit he thought she was just wanting a cuddle then by the time I got home she was lying flat out dead in the broody box.she was about a week old maybe slightly older but I just don't understand how she can die so suddenly. Is it possible she could have got an infection from her semi healed belly button? could it have been from loneliness? I haven't been staying at home the passed few days (been unwell) and then my partner left for afew hours. At all times she had access to fresh food and water and was in her warm box and since birth she has had a teddy for company and her box was in the sitting room so she could see us at all times. Is there anything we could have done differently as we are devestated by the loss she was lovely. Sorry for long post.
