Chirping
I have 6 spring chicks that range in age from 4 weeks to 6 weeks in the brooder right now and I was wondering when the best time to move them over to an adult feeder would be, hopefully before I get them out in the coop/run in the next couple weeks.
I currently have two quart size chick feeders in with them and I find myself filling them up to twice a day. I doubt they're eating 4 quarts of feed a day but they sure do seem to be wasting it, even though I have it elevated by about 3" so they can't scratch it. I'm also supplementing them with veggies, tables scraps and hand cut lawn clippings (My 3 yr son's favorite chore.)
While I don't mind filling their feeders so often, I'd prefer not to have them waste so much of it. When's a good time to move them from their baby feeders to an adult sized feeder? Can I just drop it in there and hope they get it, or should I transition them over to it slowly?
I'm a first time chicken mom and really have no idea what I'm doing but I seem to be doing ok so far, at least I think so.
Thanks for taking some time to help me out!!
