Hey guys!

I just started my flock a few weeks ago. Got some chicks from a friend, a few more from tsc , and a few more from the local feed store. They range in age from a few days to 6ish weeks. I currently have 2 mix breed (probably a bantam silkie mix), 2 brown leghorn, 1 new hampshire red, 1 black sex link, 1 buff Orrington, and 1.silver wyandotte. I have been scouring the Internet for info on chickens and kept ending up here. Figured I would make an account.

I live on a.farm with lots of.acreage so no restrictions on animals and plan to mostly free.range the birds. The jury is out on whether these ones will be pets or food post egg laying.

I look forward to hanging out here.

Welcome! Very few people eat old birds, you can but they would needs to be for soup and very small. If you want meat birds there are several good choices and they are generally processes 10+ weeks.
Free ranging works great and I enjoy it, but you do need to accept a certain amount of loss if you do.
Look forward to seeing you around!
