Can anyone tell me what breed and gender this 5 week old is?

It's at a very confusing growth stage. The feathers starting in now wont be the adult plumage. Color and pattern can and will change quite a bit from these first feathers and adult plumage that starts around 14 weeks. Mini molts all this first summer. I could hazard a guess but that's not very helpful. Try at 14 weeks if you can't tell by then.

At this age the comb looks pullet. If I'm seeing it right it looks to be a single comb. Is very tight to head still and no hint of red/pink. 5 weeks is the start of cockerels showing color in comb. It can take a few more weeks for late bloomers. You won't know for certain for a few more weeks. That said, she's got fast wing feather growth (pullet), short no red coloration comb (pullet) and I'd wager if you look at the legs they are thin not honking out of proportion tall trees growing out the bottom of chick. Thin proportionate legs (pullet). It's a girl.

Thank you so much for your detailed response! her comb is interesting, with black tips. I think this is a better picture of it smile.png

Would you have a guess on breed? Plymouth Rock?

If I had to hazard a guess then yes, Partridge Plymouth Rock. But again- that's a guess. Some of my Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock looked like this at young age. Knew they had far too much gold for any chance of breeder but did grow in more silver with adult plumage. And the lacing came in. This may get lacing but then it may grow out into a completely different variety and breed. Just can't be sure at this age. For all I know it could loose all that pattern and fill in a Chocolate Orpington. If white bottom of feet it's Orpington. Yellow is Plymouth. Then there are sooo many breeds out there, who knows. Skin color and single comb only narrows it down so much.
