]Hello all and Happy Easter! I'm a new'ish member here, just started my backyard chickens last spring. I live in South Central PA and my parents live in Land O' Lakes Florida. I received an urgent call from my mom this morning that someone had left a box with 6 baby chicks on her front porch. Obviously someone thought they were being 'cute', but my mother is in a panic. Here it is Easter Sunday and she has a box of chicks and no way to provide them with the care that they need. Is there anyone in that area that can help her? She doesn't know where they came from or how to care for them and everything is closed because it's Easter Sunday. She ground up some oatmeal and gave them some water and I told her about watching for pasty butt, but she's in a panic. I'm hoping that there is someone close to her that can take these chicks for her or offer some help. Thanks!

In a pinch she can use the oatmeal or cornmeal she may want to wet it to make it into a mash.
Make sure they have access to water, but not too deep, if the dish is fairly deep, then she can put rocks or marbles in it so the chicks don't drown.
Chick starter is available at the local feed store (like Tractor Supply)
She also needs to keep them warm either by a heat lamp or she can you a heating pad similar to the link provided.
As far as getting local help, you may want to post on the state forum here on BYC just type on your state to search, your personal facebook page (social media) or craigslist. If she can't keep the chicks, local newpaper (lost/found-usually free), radio or craigslist may also be helpful in finding someone to help.
