Hello from Missouri

This site gave us a few laughs along with needed information!  You see, for 2 years my husband has been preparing me for backyard chickens.  I wasn't very interested until he started building a chicken coop!  It's half built and I'm anticipating its inhabitants.  He has chosen a rooster, or a rooster has chosen him (long story), so we're working hard to make a cozy coop.  We have a roosting area, nesting boxes, linoleum flooring (for easy cleaning I'm told), barn-red paint and a cattle-panel covered run.  Anyway, Siri found this site for us.  We wanted to know about storing eggs.  Thank you, we learned a great deal!  I'm looking forward to learning more.

Now would be a good time to mention a rooster can handle 10 hens.   Less than that and they tend to get overbred and damaged.  Hens will lay just as many eggs without a rooster  albeit  they won't be fertile (won't hatch).

Hi and welcome to BYC - glad to hear that you have finally come around to DHs way of thinking (it took my wife 1 year to even think twice about my chickens, but now she has a lot more interest).

I wish you all the best in your new chicken-keeping adventure. Enjoy the ride!
