Egg Bound Hen...I think

Did you activate the Oxine?

Bleach smells meaner to me.

You could definitely try the Tylan... It's .5ml/cc (for a larger bird, you could dose as high as .75ml/cc) orally for a max of 5 days. Use the syringe and give the medicine down the left side of her throat to avoid her trachea.

(If I posted this picture already, sorry!)

I hope that helps. <3

Please keep in mind that there are different strains of E. coli, and I'm not 100% if Tylan will treat any of them. Worth a try, though!

Let us know how your mama does with the treatment.

Mrs. B - I can't thank you enough! I'll start the Tylan when I get home and get more fluids in her. I'll let you know how it goes!

Mrs. B - my hen Betty Lou seems to be doing ok. She's not active, but I was able to give her some more water yesterday and this morning (she was fighting me, which I hope is a good sign). I made her a scrambled egg last night and she ate about 1/3 of it. I also started her on the Tylan 50 (.75 cc orally). I'm going to get her some Sav-A-Chick Electrolyte & Vitamin Supplement from Tractor Supply on my way home today. Anything else I can do? We've separated her from the flock in case she is contagious. Thank you so much from me and Betty Lou!

Hope your Betty Lou is doing alright.I'm not sure what may be wrong with her,but I have had luck feeding a little vegetable oil through a syringe if there is egg issues. Also, if you are concerned about her not eating Nutrical for cats and dogs may help.I have a sick hen that was not eating, bought some Nutrical and she loved it and began eating her regular food very well after a while.Good luck to you and Betty Lou! You're both in my thoughts and prayers!
