So I recently started with a mixed breed of chicks,in size and age, 2 black Marans, 2 RIR, 1 Frizzle, 3 Silkies and 3 bearded Ameraucanas, or so I think. But being new to this and in a no rooster area Im wondering what your guesses are on my chicks. Since my kids are fairly attached to the chicks at this point I am hoping to have a best guess so i can prep them sooner than later. Thanks for your thoughts!

Chick 1 Black Maran, Queenie we hope, Im guessing going on 4 weeks based on her feathering

Chick #2, Also Maran, Henrietta I think is going on 3 weeks but its hard to tell.

Chick 3, RIR, TigerLily (very curious bird and shy), age?

Chick 3 is Bessy she is large and in charge, but loves to be held and loved. (RIR, age?)

Chick #5 Liberty Ameraucana, Age?

Chick #6 Dixie, Ameraucana, Age?

Chick #7 Poppy, the smallest and Im guessing youngest Ameraucana

Okay so while I know sexing silkies is impossible until they are older Im wondering if anybody would guess if these are silkie mixes. Chick#1 has gray skin and Chick#2 has wings that are feathering a little more out like a frizzle.

Wow, ok....Chick #1 does look to be about 4 weeks old, and Chick #2 and the RIRs all appear (to me, anyway) to be about 2 weeks, give or take a few days. The Ams (pretty splashes, btw, wish I had some) look like they're hovering right around a week or so, I'm guessing, maybe a little less for the last one-- four days or so....your 4 weeker does appear to be a pullet (otherwise she would probably be showing a bit more growth in *his* comb), but the others are a little too young for me to be inclined to guess. They're all beautiful birds, though! Oh, and about the silkie mixes, I don't know ANYTHING about silkies, so I figured I'd just keep my mouth shut about them

Good luck with your pretty chickies!! They're a blast, aren't they?

I agree with your guesses on age, but chick #3 is not a RIR but a Red sex-link pullet ( funny her name is Bessy, I have a Red sex-link named Bess

). Your other RIR doesn't look like a RIR but I'm not sure.

Welcome to the world of chickens! All of your little chicks are adorable!
I don't know much about Marans, but the first one, Queenie, appears to look like a cockerel.
Number 3, Tiger Lily, (is very adorable) is possible she is a RIR, but I'm not sure.
Bessy is a Red Sex Link and she is a pullet.
All of your Ameraucanas are Ameraucanas. And they will look super pretty when they grow up!
The first Silkie looks like a Silkie/Turken mix. But maybe not because I'm not an expert on Silkies. I'm not sure about the rest of the Silkies.
Good luck and sorry I couldn't provide much about age and gender. I'm not to good with either. :)

I had never even heard of a Turken but when I look them up their skin coloring is gray so that makes me think too that possibly they are a turken mix! That was very helpful. Dottie silkie number two has only four toes making me wonder if she is a silkie frizzle mix. Funny how much I didnt know when I started with chicks!

When I saw their necks were bare I definitely thought they had some Turken mixed in. Also, don't worry, you learn with experience. :) I don't know much about Frizzles though, so I can't help you with the other one. Keep us updated!

Here is an updated photo on my Maran Queenie, her comb is still fleshy colored, and all of her feathers are coming in jet black, she screams pullet to me but what do you think.

.

Hmmm....
Like I've said before, I'm no expert on Marans so my guesses are truly based on just my knowledge of chickens. I know I said that Queenie looked like a cockerel before, but know she/he is looking like a pullet. In another post though someone said she/he was a cockerel though because of feather color. I hope this works out and Queenie is a pullet. Keep us updated with pictures and what-not. Good luck! :)
