Barred Rock - Roo or Hen! - Page 2

I'm not good at head spots  BUT,  BR pullets  generally have a black wash over their legs,  and males yellow legs. It's not written in stone  but, so far I think you have pullets.

Hello! New to chickens and worried that we have a barred rock roo. 12 days old and much bigger than same age RIR and BO. Posture different than others and most curious/adventurous. Legs way bigger. Wondering if we should get another chick to add to brooder before the others get too big and provisionally plan to find home for probable roo. Can only keep 3 hens. Hoping a Plymouth barred rock expert can give opinion on gender.
Thank you smile.png

I have no idea what you've got, but we had a similar situation and did add another chick in with our 2 week olds. They are all doing well together. We are ok with 3 or 4 though, so either way we'll be keeping everyone that's a girl smile.png

All of the chicks pictured are very young so in my opinion it's very hard to tell with 100% certainty. In my experience with barred rocks the head spot theory has never paid off. At this point they look like pullets but please post pics again later when they are older and have more development. 😆

Will be watching this thread too, we have three barred rocks all have a black wash on orange legs, all have a white head spot, one has wings with definite striping. We were concerned the stripes meant roo. We named her Puff so I suppose if she turns out to be a roo she can be Puff Daddy :P
