In the Brooder
With 26 chickens now (7 we inherited and 19 pullets that we have raised) and 32 new chicks on the way and the chicken math keeps growing... We decided to leg band our flock and number them so that we can identify them if issued arise such as illness, injury, etc. as well as tracking ages for flock rotation...
Our pullets are right about 18 weeks (Golden Comets and Black Sex links). We used colored zip ties (cable ties) for our bands. I left them a little loose on the pullets to allow for leg growth. Will we see a significant change in the size (diameter) of their legs, or are their legs pretty well established at 18-20 weeks?
I will continue to watch them and if they look like they are getting tight, we will change them. I just did not know if I would be looking for something that may never happen.
