Chicks dying along with ducks.

Had 5 chicks and 2 ducks all 3 weeks old. Kept in separate areas. A chick died last night suddenly. I was at work but my girlfriend said they were acting normal. Now today, both ducks go into spasms and die in my hands within minutes of each other. So while I take the passed ducks outside, two chicks die. Two others now look lethargic. Earlier today I had them out running around and they looked great. Now I only have two chicks left and I'm not sure if they will survive!
 
I am so sorry to hear of your losses.

What temp is their brooder area? Could it possibly be too warm?

It's possible you had a bad case of Coccidiosis. It can kill a chick in 24 hours with no symptoms. Sometimes, you'll see bloody poops and lethargy, but sometimes you don't.

You can treat Cocci with Corid from Tractor Supply, your local feed store, or you can order it online.

Dose:

1.5 teaspoons of the 20% powder per gallon
OR
2 teaspoons of the 9.6% liquid per gallon

Mix with water and make fresh at least once a day, treat for 5-7 days... Maybe sure it's the ONLY water they can access during this time.

If you don't have any, I *highly* recommend keeping some on hand for the future.

I hope your two remaining chicks make a full recovery. Very sorry for your losses.

It is around 77 degrees in the brooder. A little warmer on one end a little cooler towards the other. It was just so sudden it was a shock. The kids are pretty sad as well. Hopefully the other two will be alive in the morning. I will run down to tsc and try the Corrid. Thank you for the help!
 
I'd consider raising the temp in the brooder to 85 degrees for the chicks. At three weeks, they aren't fully feathers and cannot tolerate "ambient" temps. They'll get chilled and possibly die.

At five to six weeks, chicks have all their feathers and do without supplemental heat. :)

If it's not the heat, Coccidiosis is the most common culprit in sudden chick death.
