6 buff orpingtons for my first time!! - Page 2

Welcome to BYC.  You've got my favorite kind of chicken.  At the moment I have 3.  They are calm and love attention.  They love to sit on your lap and be petted and talked to and of course getting treats from you.  Mine go in the coop around 7 now make sure you count heads because sometimes you have one that likes to dilly dally.  Spend time with them, hold them, talk to them, give them treats and you will have a friend for life.

My first flock was also of 6 BOs 3 years ago. I still have 3 of them and I love them.
I had them stay in the coop for 2 days straight when I moved them outside and they learned to go back to the coop to roost for the night.
To get them to follow me, I threw treats on the ground while walking in different directions saying " girls" and they learned to associate my presence with pleasant things happening. After a while, they come to me whenever I say " girls". The chickens I added to my flock learned w the Orpingtons to come when called.
Orpingtons are generally very nice birds and like to hang around people. Just don't let anybody chase them so they keep trusting humans.
Oh, and they still lay every other day, which is a big plus. Good luck with your new flock. You will certainly enjoy it a lot.

I've picked up an extra 2 this week and I think they are the most friendly of our baby flock so far. Can't wait to pick up our may order of them. Hubs made a good call on choosing those:D
