HELP my hen has started to crow

My 6 month old naked neck chicken started making a crowing like noise this morning. I've had her since she was a day old and am pretty positive she's a girl, she isn't laying yet but none of the chickens we brought at the same time have started to lay yet.

I've heard it is possible, although very rare that some female chickens do crow has any one experience this and does it occur daily like most roosters do? And Is there anything you can do to stop her? She is one of my favourite gals, full of personality but if she keeps the noise up were going to have to re home her :(

Some hens do that I don't think they do it all of the time but hens do it because there is no rooster so the most dominate hen will crow in act of the roosters place and can be some queit agressive if u add a rooster because a rooster will try and become the top of the pecking order to rule his lady's and she will feel very angry when he try's to take her place. So I wouldn't worry I would just watch over them by the next week or two until she lays an egg and see if she still does it as it can vary from different chickens

She is very bossy haha fingers crossed she quietens down! Thanks for your help :)
 
Is the "crow" a rough approximation of a rooster crow, or more like the real thing?

I have a five-year old Speckled Sussex hen who has been crowing for three years, regardless of the presence of a rooster in the flock. It's a pretty good imitation with a "yodel" at the very end. And now an eight-month old Legbar pullet is trying her hand at it. There is currently a rooster in my flock so these hens are doing this because they feel like it and enjoy hearing themselves.

If you're wanting to stop the behavior, I don't know of anything that would do it other than a no-crow collar, and it will just make them a little less noisy.

The crow isn't as traditional as we have experienced with Roos in the past but it was a good effort and super loud!

Do you find your gals do it every day like when roos typically crow or is it every once in a while? We heard her do it early this morning quiet a few times, but nothing through out the day. Be interesting to see if she try's again tomorrow.

Hopefully won't have to use a collar, haven't experience them in real life but on the Internet to me they sound terrible, prefer to hear a real crow then a strangled one Haha but don't know if the neighbours will agree with me there :)
 
The hen that crows almost every day does it only in the mornings. The pullet that has recently taken up crowing likes to practice when she's in the coop getting set to lay her egg.

I think it's sort of like singing in the shower.

No I'm not a 100% sure she is but I did do a bit of research and she doesn't look like a male naked neck and byc members said they thought she was a hen.

We had two Roos and two hens when we purchased these baby chicks. The roosters started crowing very young and were re homed about 3 months ago so thought we were in the clear! They boys also sounded quite different but the naked neck is certainly giving it a crack!

None of my girls have started to lat yet. Hope I haven't mistaken them all for girls, I'll be going hungry for a while!!!
