Looking for ideas on how to successfully move my flock
We sold our house to move to greener pastures(more land less people) we live in the rural part of the city on a busy roa.... lots of traffic!
But we haven't found our dream home and will be staying with friends for a time!
So I will need to move my 11 chickens not once but twice!
Any suggestions? Anything I can feed for stress?
They are ages 1-3 years

Cardboard boxes with lots of ventilation holes do the job quite well, as they provide darkness which seems to reduce stress. Tie the legs loosely of each bird and pop a couple in each (size dependent, of course).

I use wire dog crates to transfer birds, even multiples to a crate,
they hunker down on their hocks when vehicle is moving.
How far of a trip is it?
Is there a coop for them to live in with your friends?

Stress..... just time to get used to their new surrounding and good feed / water
 
TOMORROW IS MOVING DAY!!!

I have 2 dog crates for transport
built a temporary run and taking thier coop too
so will they be ok to do supervised free range?? or should I leave them in the run for a few days???
the new yard is large country setting .. lots move predators
and there is a flock of wild turkeys that visit through the yard every day. will my hens get along with them??

WooHoo!!! Best Wishes!

I'd leave them in their coop and run for a week or two....
......then first start free ranging them late in the day just for an hour before sunset or so, to test the waters so to speak....make sure they find their way back.
Extend range time daily if it feels right.

they'll have lots of new fresh grass and worms to forage for!!!
right now they all come running when I call them...
but it's probably the meal worm treat they are so excited for.. not me!!!

Well the move went well!
Doesn't seem to be to stressful the egg laying is not been reduced and I now have a broody hen! ...I'm the stressed one!
