Day 21 and seven pips. This little guy went from no pip to this very, very shortly. Can't say how long because I wasn't watching. It's that blue one in the middle. I'll try to post clearer pictures.

It's still hatching but it looks like blood around where it's hatching. Is it possible for a chick to hatch before it's done absorbing blood vessels? I've read horror stories of them bleeding out.
It doesn't look like it's actively bleeding and it's peeping, but I don't think in distress.

It does not look like it's bleeding to me. Sometimes there's a little blood inside the shell (sometimes from slightly too-high incubation temperatures) that's not connected to any active blood vessels. It's day 21, so it's even less likely it's blood from premature hatching.

Thank you! I think you're right, because it just hatched (the yellow one on the left.) We now have two chicks out of 24. Hopefully more to come.

Just an update to close the thread. We now have twenty beautiful babies with one more egg pipped. Had to assist four because of dried membranes. One chick died last due to shrink wrap so I didn't want to risk it with the other four; they weren't making any progress, anyway. The four we assisted are doing just fine.

Here are a few of the chicks.

My only isabel orpington. Helped her out and she looked half dead, but she's doing just fine now.

Either an ameraucana or an olive egger; they all look the same, haha. I'm guessing it's a he and that he's gonna be trouble.

Lemon cuckoo, maybe? Probably not the only yellow ameraucana 'cause no muffs.
