Sally is 4-5 years old. She is our only hen and she is family. A friend rescued her as a tiny chick, from waste he scooped up at a chicken farm to make fertilizer. His family hand raised her and she won ribbons at the fair. Two years ago they had to move, so she came here to our small farm. She is free range during the day. My husband converted a horse stall over into her house. Her hutch is in there, she has a roost.

Now for the problem. We took her to the vet yesterday thinking she had injured her leg. I noticed a mild limp on Tuesday that just got worse. It's her right leg. She can hobble, but she steps on the foot and gets stuck. Our vet had to hit the books. She is thin. She only weighed 2.7 lbs. She is having diahreah that varies from dark to clear water and sometimes white and green. Doc suspects Marecks disease. He prescribed metacam and said to watch her. He checked her stool, but only mentioned Marecks, but said he could be wrong.

She is eating and drinking. She's trying hard to do her normal day, but she's physically limited and she's frustrated. I'm so worried. Any thoughts or advice?

Hi and welcome to BYC. I'd strongly suggest re-posting your question on the "Emergencies, diseases, injuries and cures" section ASAP.

Best of luck
