Local breeders.

I am looking for other options than TSC. I would like to buy local chickens and have a definitive idea of what I'm buying. Also, talk to someone who has an idea of how to raise chickens.

Right, totally understand that - just wanted to know what breed(s) as different breeds would prompt me to refer you to different folks as there are several people in the general area who work with birds that are the type you are seeking and have the willingness to talk with you about their birds, so knowing what breed(s) you want helps to narrow the list a bit. Are you wanting heavy breed layers, ornamentals (ie silkies, cresteds, etc), bantams, game birds......? Are you wanting production based breeding or exhibition based breeding?

Thanks for the assistance. So, I have bought six chicks from TSC. My intention is for egg production. I do like the heavy breeds, but have little experience to know the difference. For appearance sakes I have become fond of barred rocks and Marans. I currently have a coop that can house six chickens but am building another to house six more chickens. What can I say, I have chicken fever now.

Are you on Facebook and how much of a drive do you want to make? Have you stoppe over by the Kentucky or indiana state threads yet?

Chicken Ridge Farm in KY is a bit spendy, but they have beautiful birds. Nathan Crumley can be found on facebook in several of the local poultry/farm groups and has some really nice bird, he's near Madidon, IN so about an hour from louisville
