I found this pic as a good comparison, the cockerel and pullet are both about 4 months of here. As you can see the one in the front has Mitch more white than the one in the back.
Also to look at, the size and redness of the comb. Cockerels will redden up and grow much sooner than a pullet. Pullets won't turn red until onset of laying.

My 2 Barred Rocks look like their white is coming in thicker than their black. The combs are pretty pronounced compared to my other breeds too.

Thank you this is helpful! I have Barred Rocks too, we think. I am worried one is a cockerel. He has a small comb forming already and he is only 18 days old. None of our others do. He is also the boss of the brooder.
