How Smart Are Chickens?

Hi everyone! I have just bought 4 point-of-lay Bantams. Which are going to free-range in the top area of our garden. Most of the area is fenced (or walled) but one small section isn't, and there is a drop down onto our patio. Will my chickens realise that there is a drop, and therefore stay away, or will they end up falling down? Do you think I should fence this area? Or the other option, would be to move their coop to go in front of the small gap, but I'm not sure if that would work....?

Please let me know! big_smile.png
Many Thanks!

I don’t know how high that drop is but I can assure you they will not fall. You don’t have to worry about them falling and hurting themselves at all. What they will do is fly down. Whether or not they fly back up will depend on their motivation and how high it is, but they should be able to fly down and join you safely.

If you want to keep them out, you need a barrier.

When you come to a fork in the road, take it.
