My first chicken problem..

Friday morning I noticed one of my barred rocks walking funny. Tail down feathers ruffled she couldn't jump. When I got home that night she was in the coop at the top of the ramp going into the house, because there was no way she could make it onto the rod. After looking online, & checking for injuries on her, I was convinced she was egg bound. I brought her in, gave her a nice Epsom soak she did not disapprove of. She didn't even want to walk. I worried about her a lot & in the morning I got up & she seemed very wobbly. Standing was hard & she would loose balance easily. I took her to an avian vet & it was kind of disappointing. They offered x-rays, & blood tests, said that they may not show much anyway & a calcium /vitamin D injection. (Around $700 total btw) Or euthanasia. She's a year old & doesnt seem sick- I went with a cal/vitamin D shot +electrolytes & some pain medication. She is still in my bathtub snacking on feed & dinking a little water- I am stressed out about it! When I brought her home she did lay an egg about an hour later & it had a very thin shell...

Is she getting layer feed?  It's good to have a separate container for  crushed oyster shell.  If a hen feels she needs the calcium she will eat that free choice.   Please update  her condition.  I am hoping passing an egg and the  added calcium will make a difference.

Hi and welcome. I'm sorry that it is not under betting circumstances that you have joined. If i am not mistaken, think that you may have posted in in the "emergencies etc" forum - i hope that someone managed to help you out. If not, then please do post on the "emergencies, diseases, injuries and cures" forum.

Fingers crossed for the recovery of your chicken.

All the best
