Hi, I'm Dawn and we started a chicken a few years ago with some Longhorns we got from the local 4-H. My friend (who had chickens and talked me into it) kept them and cared for them until we got our run set up and they were old enough to stay outside. Over the years we purchased a few already laying hens - predominantly leghorns since we were looking to keep our 2 preteen boys fed

. Last summer we hardly got any eggs so we closed down the operation for the winter. We just got new chicks (branching out, we got Rhode Island Reds, Buff Orphingtons, and Barred Plymoth Rocks). My "friend" turned out to be an inaccurate source of info so I'm here to learn

If you put your state name in the search box it will pop up. Then you can post there and see if you have any BYCers in your area.
