Normally don't interfere with my cat's hunting but when I hear a baby crying it's different. Looks like the little things actually OK, just a small toothmark that I put antiseptic on and wrapped in a bandaid. Can't find its best until morning at least. Had an eyedropper and save-a-chick so gave it some vitamind. Any ideas what it is? If it's OK in the morning and I can't find its nest, what do I feed it and how often? Wet chick starter OK you think?

That looks very much like a house sparrow. I have rehabbed birds, and I have to say, the best thing you can do is get the little guy to a licensed rehabber. Check your nearby wildlife centers. Do not feed the bird, handle the bird more than neccassary, or release the bird unless into it's nest. You can house him overnight in a shoebox in a warm room and syringe water him if he seems dehydrated or weak. In the morning, check for a nearby nest, but only put the chick back in if you are confident that the cat cannot get to the nests. I wouldn't do it. Cats are crafty and will come back for food. Contrary to common belief, a bird has a very weak sense of smell and will not be able to smell that the chick has been handled by humans. They will only abandon the chick if they see you replace it, and even then, they still have a very strong maternity instinct, so may not be put off even by the sight of you. Good luck and keep us updated!

Wet chick starter does not have the appropriate nutrients for a sparrow chick. Rehabbers will be able to mix up a specific formula for him. It is also illegal to possess a wild bird without a permit. Good luck!
