An African Chick in Texas

Hey, Chris, fact not fiction - we know Berts.

Hi and welcome  to BYC from Kenya :frow  - great to have you onboard.

I hope that you are able to replicate your chicken-keeping in Zim. Sounds like the chickens you had there were a commercial breed - the local chickens here (aka road-runners) go broody when there's a "Y" in the day of the week!

All the best
CT

Yup. We used to get them as 4-month old pullets from a local factory. They laid huge brown eggs but not one ever sat longer than it took to pop an egg out. We got two roadrunners, one black, one white, and they were prolific setters. Between the two of them, at one point, we had about three dozen chicks. Our yard turned into National Geographic for a while when the Sky Pirates figured out our yard was the place to go for a quick take out.
