Needing some pointers for my homemade incubator.

I decided to try my luck at building an incubator. Here is how far I've gotten. I still need to add a fan and I'm planning on building egg turners. I'm probably going to insulate it also so it doesn't cool as quickly when the thermostat kicks off. Let me know if you see any flaws or have any suggestions as far as bulb placement, egg placement, ventilation humidity control. Based on some short test runs I'm afraid getting enough humidity could be difficult.

I'd like to see ideas you have for homemade egg turners. I was thinking of making some out if pvc, but am also thinking if making one large shelf that pivots so the chicks will have more room to move around as they start hatching

You may have to run it a few days for the interior wood to absorb some moisture. Then check your humidity level. Might have to add a 2nd pan. You've got a lot of volume inside that cabinet.

Take a look at this egg turner from Incubator Warehouse

It will hold 42 chicken eggs. It rolls the eggs back and forth. The motor rotates once every 4 hours. I'm using now on its first hatch. I've bought some 1/16" HDPE and am making longer slides so it makes use of the entire tray.

Thanks for the reply. Getting enough humidity won't be a problem. Turns out I had a bad hygrometer. I had it up to 70% last night with a wet bath towel in the bottom. Took it out about 2am and shut off the incubator and it was still 57% this morning. Now I just need to experiment to make sure I can control it after adding ventilation.

I like the idea of the turner you showed and I have seen manual ones using pvc that work the same. I thought I read that eggs should be in the incubator standing on end until lockdown. That's not possible with that kind of turner. Did I read wrong? Is one method better than the other? I like the idea of not having tilting trays because the eggs will always be the same distance from the heat source.
