I read the oddest thing the other day, on a Facebook page; a lady claimed to have gotten the advice to provide her Muscovies with a dust bath, and that she often saw them dust-bathing i dirt, like chickens.

I've tried to google for more info, without avail.

What do you guys think? I always assumed they'd be fine with regular bathing...

When it comes to fowl, never say never, but in all of my near 75 years I have NEVER seen a duck of any sort dust bathing.

That's what I thought! I started thinking that maybe the aforementioned lady doesn't give her ducks enough bathing water, so they start to dust bath as a last resort..? But that still sounds weird.

Well giving ducks dust baths could infect there nares if they do not clean them out and then if infected it could spread to the crop and chest. I just don't see it as a good idea, For anyone reading , give your ducks bathing water and water deep enough to clean there nares.

Thank you. I will not provide my duck with a designated dust bathing area.

I'm happy I don't have to do that. The duck pen is starting to get crowded with bushes, roosts, the pond and various shelters.
