I have 6 Buff Orpingtons. My husband wants to get 2 that bring some color to our flock. But i have also read that buffs get picked on by many different chickens because they are so docile. Any opinions on what we could get?

They are chicks right now. we got them a week ago. I REALLY REALLY want a jersey giant!

Careful. If you end up with a Jersey Giant rooster, he could pose a danger to standard hens when mating them, unless you keep him segregated. Try to examine the possible consequences of your choice of breeds.

And Buff Orpingtons are not exactly the wimps they're made out to be. I have a BO rescued hen who is currently making her way up the pecking order, and she has more spunk than many of my other breeds.

My Jersey giants were sweet gentle birds and got along with the other breeds all of which were smaller than they are. Since orpingtons are so sweet you might want to stay away from the Mediterranean breeds that are flighty and may pick on other breeds. As someone stated, if you get some and they grow up together, they should have a pecking order but be fine together.

My biggest hope is that they will be very close to our family and kids, we are reading up on ways to "train" them, lol. More like coming when they're called and being very friends

My first batch of 7 chickens last year had one Buff Orpington, who was definitely not one to get picked on. She was probably somewhere in the middle of pecking order. She recently passed away, but was our "crazy" one. She always ran around looking like a linebacker and was just a little nutty. But sweet at the same time, if that makes sense. I don't think getting 2 others of a different kind would be too bad. Especially since you have 6.
