Hello! Our first hopeful hatch using a little counter top incubator. These eggs are from a daddy Pekin and momma golden 300. One has pipped, the other is thinking about it. I can hear it scratching around. The one that pipped did it Tuesday morning in the wee hours. Here we are Wednesday and not much has happened. Do I assist??

Were the membranes really dry with the eggs that hatched? If so, you might have a shrink-wrap situation with the last egg, and it might be worth helping it hatch.

I am hesitant to assist much. I assisted a really late egg once. The duckling had genetic defects. It is really hard and sad to have to euthanize a small duckling. Keep in mind that assisting the hatch could lead you to that same situation.

Thank you for your kind words and good feedback. We had 2 fertilized eggs in our incubator, and we have lost them both. My husband autopsied the one baby Who gave such a good effort, but was not going to live either way. There were some serious birth defects. Which leads me to ask the question… can golden 300s produce healthy babies? Ive never read anything about people hatching them other than when they order eggs. I'm curious.

Sorry your hatch didn't go well.

Golden 300s are a hybrid line. You wouldn't expect genetic problems with a hybrid like you would with a purebred line. I think most people don't breed them at home because the sex-linked coloration only holds for the first generation. With out the sex-linked coloring, you might as well just breed khaki campbells.

Where did you get your eggs? Any chance the breeding stock is poor?

Thank you for the info. I may do khakis should I make another attempt. I had a Pekin male and was trying to hatch the eggs from him and our golden girls.
