Whats with their heads?

So my local shelter had called me to take 2 ducks that were malnourished and in very poor shape earlier this month. I have always helped with chickens, rats, dogs, and cats when they need a little extra help before they could be put up for adoption. BUT never ducks.

So onto the question, I got these babies about 4 weeks ago and at that time they were estimated to be about 2 1/2 weeks old but very sick. My first thought was Pekin Ducks, they are common easy to get and these guys looked like baby Pekin Ducks, but I did go into this knowing nothing but that I had sick ducks whom had never seen water other than in a shot glass full of poop and they were 2 1/2 weeks old.

They have healed well and love to go swimming and lately when I put them in the tub, (I live in Maine it is still too cold outside) I have noticed the tops of their heads are getting darker, the larger one more so than the smaller one. At first glance my thoughts were, What happened to my ducks and how did they get dark bruises on their heads? But it has been over a week and 1/2 and the spots are getting darker and bigger, I was wondering if anyone could chime in that maybe I got the breed wrong or maybe there is something wrong with them.

These are the pics of them a few days after I got them:

See how nice and yellow their heads are

And this is one I just took today:

Whats that black on their heads?

I just want to make sure they are not hurt or anything........

Stay at home mother, and crazy for my chickens. Currently I have a small mixed flock of RIR, Barred Rock, Black Sexlinks. I am sure the breeds are not pure they are feed store left overs that no one else wanted. I also have a small flock of Bantam silkies.

I believe that they are muscovies and they are going to have dark feathers on their heads.
