Chicken Breed Focus - d'Uccle bantams

First of all, love this post! Thank you for putting it together :) Also not to be sappy but so, so glad to be here. I'll go ahead and answer the questions

· What made you decide to get this breed?
It's been kind of a tradition to look through the McMurray Hatchery magazine every year and the plan was to get a more.. main breed, and then pick out one that's more for the looks. I saw the mille fleur d'uccles and was in love.

I now have Father Time and Shirley, Shirley is a gray d'uccle that my mom picked up from Tractor Supply, and Father Time was a rooster that I was lucky enough to see somebody was trying to rehome on Facebook. :)

· Do you own them for fun? Breeding? Some other purpose?
I only have one right now, a rooster named Father Time :) When I had more hens before though from the hatchery, they were mainly for just fun, but of course eggs are great as well.

· What are your favorite characteristics about this breed?
Basic answer, but they are just beautiful. I don't know what it is but they are my favorite breed all time in terms of looks. I love the mille fleurs the most, the orangey color, how they're so cute and small, I love love their markings though the most. That's what really makes them so unique to me. Maybe I just have a thing for speckles because I ended up ordering speckled sussex as my main breed along with them that year. The gray d'uccles are a very close second though.

· Post some pics of your birds; male/female, chicks, eggs, etc!
Happily!!

There is a breeder in my area and I love the look of the boots

I own a breeding pair that look stunning! My rooster is fertile and I have a brooding plan for next spring! Wish me luck!

· What are your favorite characteristics about this breed?

I wish I had my pair since they hatched because they are a bit skiddish towards me. I am hoping the female comes around to her first laying season this coming spring and lays out a good batch of first eggs. My rooster crows are quite shrilling but surprisingly not too loud. My home is situated on a good size lot but I still have neighbors. They Haven’t complained yet!

I've been looking for some of these chicks for the spring. Where did y'all get yours? I can't seem to find them online and they never show up at my feed store.
