I have 4-week old chicks inside with broody hen. The chicks are mostly feathered out except for heads. Inside temp is 70 degrees. Chicks still go under hen to warm at night. Outside nursery is a separate coop with sand bottom. Do I need to put down wood shavings on top of sand? Outside temps are still 30-45 degrees. Will broody hen be enough to keep them warm?

If she is an attentive mother, they should be fine. I have had outdoor hens raise chicks in the middle of winter. Keep them dry, draft free, well fed, and Mom will do the rest.
