Help - new to this. Broody hen sat on 11 eggs for 21 days and so far only hatched one little perfect chick (named Uno). While in the nest we observed it walking around seemingly with no problems. Today is the first day out of the nest and it looks injured. Maybe feel out of the nest? What should we do?

Put some chick vitamins in the chickens' water, or give the chick some baby vitamins PolyVisol no iron, 2 drops daily by mouth, in case of a vitamin deficiency. Look at her leg for swelling or redness. The toes can be taped and the leg can be splinted if necessary.

We had a chick very similar the other day. Started with vitamins but also made a little pad that we taped her to. Had to do it twice, only last a day or so each time, but worked like a charm!

So I just arrived home and now I can take these ideas and implement. Couldn't ask my 'babysitter' to take on even more right?

SweetandSavory - do you have any more detail? what do you mean a pad? Did you keep the baby with the momma?

Thanks
Cindy

Ours came out of an incubator but if I was you I would take her and a friend or 2 in to a brooder (bathtub works for us!!) you'll need to monitor that she's getting food and water.
My husband took the plastic top of something (like a sour cream container) and cut out a triangle just bigger then her foot. We then took bandage tape (sticky but not too sticky) and taped her foot to it. Make sure its in the position you want it before you tape. It would only last a day or so before she pulled it off but between that and the vitamins I added to the water she's walking just fine now.

However with all that being said, I caught it within the 1st 12 ours of life but I would still try it with yours.

Hope this helps

so here is an update on Uno:
He/She gets so upset whenever I take him away from Flora(momma) and Flora seems to be upset too so we've decided to leave him with her for now. I'm wondering if any brace or hobble will help now or is it too late? he hops around very well and eats, drinks, poops just like the other chicks. I am thinking he will just be my special chicken...more to love!

Thoughts or advice?
