Itchy Baby Chick

Thread Starter
I just received 15 baby chicks in the mail yesterday. One of the babies is scratching at its back and keeps rolling over on its back and just laying there. All the other chicks seem fine. Any ideas?

I would remove it from the group. It might get better, and it might not. However, the others won't bother it.

I don't have any idea, but if they are just a day old, it might not be good.

Welcome to BYC @chickenparty.

Scratching at it's back?....with it's beak?

Can't stay on it's feet?

Is it eating and drinking?

May be some neurological issue.

Great article on VENTILATION, one of THE MOST IMPORTANT aspects of coop design.

Fantastic treatise to help decide how much SPACE your chickens need.

Chicken math is not just 'addition'...but also should include Division, Multiplication and especially Subtraction!!!
