Hi all! Can you tell me what breed you think I have. They were sold as sexed pullets and as Buff Orpington. But they are more red than buff and there are darker spots through the feathers. All pics below are of the same 2 chicks and all at 4 weeks of age. What do you think??

Huh! Well, I looked up RIR chicks and I think you could be right. I know that's a good breed of chicken but I really was hoping for some Buff Orpingtons. I guess that's what you get for dealing with people who don't know what they're selling. Thanks so much for your input! Anyone else think the same? Thanks all!

I have been looking around at people's chicks and there are a lot of these reddish ones. It seems this is commonly sold breed. Anyone else thinking Rhode Island Red? Anyone have a good link to read more about them? I realize that they are very productive egg layers but I'm wondering about their personalities. Mine seem to be pretty friendly already.

I have a RIR hen I got 2 years ago and she is very curious and friendly, and always runs up to me when I walk down to the coop. I also have a RIR rooster and he is fairly skittish of me, but before he used to attack me. I also have their daughter and she is nice, but not very friendly. Becky(the first hen I talked about) lays huge eggs and has gotten egg bound 3 times. But her daughters eggs are half the size of hers. They are great layers. Becky layed almost all though the winter. The only time she doesn't lay is when it's extremely cold out or she's molting. I hope this helps. Otherwise I just rambled about a few hens for no reason lol.
