Greetings from San Jose, California :)

Hey fellow backyard chickeners,

I'm Chris. I knew a couple chickens in San Francisco, so when I moved to San Jose I thought, why not here too? I'm proud to introduce Beyonce, Kelly and Michelle to the community of online backyard chicken raising! Beyonce is a beautiful Buff Orpington, Kelly is a feisty Rhode Island Red, and Michelle is a loving Barred Rock hen. They were adopted at just a few days old in stinky Gilroy (just south of San Jose) and quickly began to establish a pecking order in their paper back on the drive back up.

Since February, I've read a couple booklets about backyard chicken raising, spent countless hours online, and even visited my neighbor's flocks to get advice from veteran chicken folks. We were super lucky to find a disassembled chicken coop for FREE on craigslist from family that was moving away. I am currently building them a run enclosure for when the ladies are full grown.

I look forward to sharing their progress and mine on here, and getting answers to (or offering solutions to) questions about raising chickens in urban areas on here.

Regards from The Eggplant Tavern,

Chris, Beyonce, Kelly and Michelle
