Working on the coop today, maybe have some more pictures later.

My coop is 6ft wide by 8ft long. I have 16 nesting boxes with potential to have 32 all together, but I only put nesting boxes on 1 side, and chicken wiring the other so I can use the other side to add chickens to the flock so they can see each other for a few weeks but not hurt each other.
As for tools I had to have a skill saw and a compound miter box (under $100 from Harbor Freight Tools). I also went with a metal roof so had to have tin snips, but those are cheap and you will need them if you put any flashing on. Usually between neighbors and friends you should be able to borrow the tools you need and maybe some helping hands. I have noticed everyone is very interested in my chicken project, but this coop was all my 3 year old and me.

Wow, that's a a lot of nesting boxes, how many chickens do you have?

Love the red with white trim!

Beautiful construction and design. 16 nest boxes? Whow! Lucky hens. Unfortunately if yours are like ours, they will all (12 hens and 8 unsexed juveniles) try to pile into the same nest box.

Yeah, I'm in the beginning stages of converting an old shed into a much larger coop for our birds. I think when I get to the nest box construction phase I'll just make one big open nesting box for them. I have three nesting boxes right now and only one is being used consistently with the center one being used occasionally. The third box must have bad juju to it or whatever because in the year since the girls started laying I have only found one egg in it. I'm probably wrong but I think the ratio is one box per 4 hens. If you are planning on 16-32 nesting boxes........yikes! That's a lot o birds!
