Good morning,
My Necked Neck/Turken chicks arrived this morning, they made it all the way from Cackle Hatchery in Missouri to San Diego, CA! This is only my second time getting chicks (the last time about four years ago, and then the baby you can see in my profile picture was about three years ago and mama raised them!).
First off: we looove our naked necks! They were actually given to my husband's family (who all have flocks) as a joke by a non-chicken person for a Christmas present. And my then boyfriend (now husband) and I had been thinking about getting chickens anyway (I had never had any), so I sidled up and asked if anyone would mind if I take the three pullets (who were about 2 mos old at the time). So thats how we came to be naked neck owners - we love them, they are so friendly, they give us more eggs than we could ever need - and I don't really want to hear any naysayers *evil eye* about my babies!
So anyway now that our girls are getting older and we lost a couple along the way to mysterious illness
I wanted to order some more!!! So I ordered from Cackle because they allow small orders and seem nice according to reviews! I ordered 6 female turkens. When I had called with questions, a representative said they didn't like to do the small orders but they would! So I ordered, got an arrival date about a week later, and now about two weeks later - here we are
I couldn't sleep past 5 so I got up, got the brooder all ready (lights, water, action!) and then drove to the post office at about 5:45am, there was no waiting for "the call" (me at the post office at 5:45 ->
) (Post office lady was like just give the lady the chicks and get out lol). I heard peeping so I was so relieved that at least some at made it without harm! I drove home and you should have seen my face when I saw 4 black chicks and 4 yellow chicks (I had asked for a color assortment if possible as we only have had one black one and rest brown)!!!!!!!! And yes thats 8 chicks - chicken math + plus Cackle hedging their bets = happy chicken lady! I dunked their beaks in the water, and so far all of them are perky, eating, drinking, wandering, etc! So without further ado:
