I brought home 9 barred rock chicks from Tractor Supply yesterday afternoon. One of my chicks is slightly smaller than the rest, lethargic, does not care to eat or drink. It did have a minor case of pasty butt, but it's vent has been clear since I cleaned it up last night. It has enough strength to stand if it's jostled or poked at by the others, but has just been laying under it's shelter.

What do I do?

Get some SaveAChick vitamins with electrolytes (pedialyte, Gatorade, or 1/4 tsp of sugar in a quart of water will do in a pinch,) and start dipping her beak into the water. Pasty butt is very common in shipped chicks, and it may last up to a week or more, so check her again tomorrow. A dot of oil with a QTip may lubricate the vent opening. Make sure that she is warm enough at around 90 degrees F, with a cooler spot nearby. Hopefully she will perk up soon.
