My "first" five chickens ship from MPC on Monday so I should have known better before pulling into the feed store parking lot......

Now my actual "first" chickens are 2 bantams of some flavor. They have feathered legs so I'm thinking they are most likely cochins....maybe a partridge and a white or buff?

I'd love some expert opinions, however, so I'll get pics up as soon as they wake up from their nap. Everyone seems to be eating and drinking fine and I hear contented little cheeps from underneath the Premium heat plate. I measured the temp on the bedding underneath and it is reading 85-do you think this is okay? If I lower it I am afraid it will be touching their heads and the underside of the plate is pretty darn warm....

The darker one had some dried poop on his rear that I assumed was probably pasty butt so I washed it off gently. It was pretty hard to get off-is that normal? I got it but it wasn't easy.....

They're super cute, I hope they are both pullets! Pics to follow.....

It's normal whether it's hard or soft. That heat is just fine, just be sure they have a way to get away from the heat.

Any mor equestions?

Not yet.... But I'm sure I will! I attached a pic of their current setup. I have a much bigger brooder that will hold all 7 once their sisters arrive but this is working for the moment.

Well they sound adorable! There are actually a lot of feathered feet bantams. I'll have to wait for pictures until I could tell you what I think they are. That temp should be fine for now. If you see them cuddling up real tight with one another it's to cold so make sure to up the temp a bit. Can't wait to see pics.! :)

I just took some-I'm pretty sure they're both Cochins-buff and partridge. But, that's assuming I did my detective work correctly on which hatchery they came from-ha! Here they are-
